Announcing the Winner – Our New American Idol
The star-studded American Idol finale did not disappoint – with superstars like Tony Bennett, Tim McGraw, Beyonce, Jack Black, Gladys Knight, Tom Jones, Lady Gaga (who I think is just over the top strange and completely inappropriate – especially for a family show like American Idol), Carrie Underwood (who is what American Idol is about), Bono (straight from his show last night in Utah which I have to say I loved), Mark Anthony with J-Lo dancing, Steven Tyler’s final performance was crazy good – with stars like that – how could the show go wrong?
Well, I could have done without the “best of the worst” clips – and I wish they could teach the contestants to blend their voices when singing as a group instead of trying to out-sing each other (one of the things I like about The Voice). I also could have done without the half dressed man groping the half dressed Lady Gaga – but the rest of the show was great. I was reminded again why I love Casey James – he and James Durbin are so funny and I love their banter!
And now .. to our winner. Time was running down and I got nervous… would they go over again and my DVR miss announcing the winner?
Were you surprised?
Our new American Idol is… Scotty McCreery!
Congratulations Scotty – America Loves you! and Best Wishes to Lauren Alaina.

Forget boy bands – I’ll have Tom Jones any day of the week!

Well, I have to say I agree with your comments, for the most part. I do like Gaga, but I didn’t think last night was a strong performance from her, and the groping guy made my 14 year old son uncomfortable. Having said that, he said he didn’t enjoy JLo’s boot shake either. (Didn’t seem to mind Beyonce’s though!) I loved Jlo’s performance with her husband.
For me the most enjoyable moments of the night were: Jack Black and CASEY doing Queen’s “fat bottom girls,” Steven going “Dream On,” Haley and Tony Bennett, (Oh my that girl can sing, can’t she?), and the look on Lauren’s face the entire time she was singing with Carrie Underwood.
Tim McGraw is so sexy but he and Scotty didn’t have much chemistry between them. The group production numbers were great, but some of those kids, you are right, just can’t sing WITH other people. Bless little Stefano’s heart, cause he belongs on stage like that….such energy. Same with Naima who lights it up when she performs.
The video clips were great! As a person who faithfully watched the entire season, I enjoyed the homages to the judges, funny as they were, and the short crazy clips of some of the nut cases auditioning.
Scotty is a sweet boy. He was NOT and is not my favorite performer of this season, and I was sad that James didn’t win it all.
I love JLo, Randy and Steven. They are funny and sweet. Who needs Simon and his weird energy?
All in all, I got my entertainment value big time.

OH… one last thing. This morning on the way to school my 14 year old (son) was singing Tom Jones’ “It’s Not Unusual!!!”

First of all, I’m glad that James got the boot. Second, I’m surprised it took so long. If I ever go to a show and the performer starts to cry, I’m leaving. That being said, I’m very glad that Scotty won. Although not my initial top pick, his personality and voice are both admirable.
